Things to do in Victoria, BC – Hike East Sooke Park

Probably one of my favorite hikes on the island is East Sooke Park. I was surprised to learn about the beautiful beach at Ayland Farm.

It’s roughly a 10Km hike from one Pike Road to Ayland Farm and take approx 6 hours depending on pace and fitness levels. It suggested hike for fit and experienced hikers however I found it quite easy, with no major hills or mountains just continues up and down hills with beautiful vistas.

We continued our hike to Beechy Head where we stopped for lunch. This is also where you can come to watch Turkey Vultures during the months of September and October gather on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island.  This is where the Turkey Vultures  gather before before crossing the 18+ miles of the open ocean of Juan de Fuca Strait on their way to Olympic National Park, Washington.

This is a great hike and highly suggest.

Things to do in Victoria, BC – Hike Mt. Finlayson /Goldstream Provicnal Park

Of all the hikes here in Victoria, BC – Mt. Finlayson has got to be the most challenging hike. I recently hiked up Mt. Finlayson with a group of friends and with the help of my husband. I was literally rock climbing. It was the first time I’d been all the way up to the top! I’ve been hesitating however I was with a group and they kept going so I followed. The hike features majestic waterfalls, a meandering river that meets the sea, flowers, birds and fascinating fish are but a few of the attractions that draw people to Goldstream Provincial Park an only  16 km from downtown Victoria on southern Vancouver Island.

Once we reached the top, the view was magnificent. This climb is steep with steep dropoffs and extremely challenging. This is for an avid hiker and not too mention fit hiker! It is a must try if you are looking for a challenge.
